My Hero’s Journey.

DESIGN RESEARCH / CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT / WRITING

My Hero's Journey is a workbook specifically designed to help students tell the story of their postgraduate research journey. Drawing inspiration from Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey narrative framework, the workbook leads students through a series of activities that encourage deep reflection on their initial inspiration, the challenges encountered throughout their journey, and the lessons learned from overcoming them. With a structure mirroring the Hero's Journey framework, the workbook helps students weave their research story into a strong and engaging discussion chapter.

As the first author and initiator of the project, I had the privilege of conceptualising and leading the development of the workbook’s content, structure and exercises. I worked closely with designer and illustrator Cassie Khoo, with support from the wider Good Health Design team. Drawing on my background in anthropology, I saw a chance to make Joseph Campbell’s ideas practical and relevant for postgraduate students at AUT’s School of Art & Design.
