Equity & Akonga Success Strategy.

DESIGN RESEARCH / CO-DESIGN / STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

The Equity and Ākonga Success Strategy sets out a ten-year plan for Te Pūkenga to enable equitable access, participation, and support for all learners. The strategy aims to remove barriers to education by improving learner support, qualification design, staff and employer capability, and by deepening understanding of learners’ diverse backgrounds and needs. It outlines the vision, key goals and measures, and a series of practical ‘momentum strategies’ to drive change across the vocational education sector in New Zealand.

As Human-Centred Design Lead, I led much of the co-design process with learners to help shape these strategies. This involved planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple co-design sessions across the country, designing inclusive workshop activities to encourage participation among Māori, Pacific and Disabled learners, while working closely with these groups to understand their experiences and needs. I also collaborated with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to analyse data, and contributed to the development of national-level strategies that reflect what matters most to learners.
