Equity & Akonga Success Strategy.

DESIGN RESEARCH / CO-DESIGN / STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

The Equity and Ākonga Success Strategy sets out a ten-year plan for Te Pūkenga to ensure all learners have equitable access, participation, and support. The strategy aims to remove barriers to education by improving learner support, qualification design, staff and employer capability, and by deepening understanding of learners’ diverse backgrounds and needs. It outlines the vision, key goals and measures, and a series of practical ‘momentum strategies’ to drive change across the organisation.

As Human-Centred Design Lead, I led much of the co-design process with learners from across the country to help shape these strategies. This involved planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple co-design sessions, designing inclusive activities to encourage participation with Māori, Pacific and Disabled learners, and working closely with learners to understand their experiences. I also analysed the insights gathered and supported the development of strategies that reflect what matters most to ākonga.
